Heads saying words
Your brain retrieves and delivers the words that come out of your mouth very, very fast ā it takes mere hundreds of milliseconds. Sometimes thereās time to mull over the best choice of phrase, but much is actually unconscious: weāre just heads saying words, at times with awkward or hilarious consequences. You donāt know what the right thing to say is until youāve already said the wrong one. Children embrace this openly: they learn what to say by saying everything and seeing what happens.
