We just want the cash
Itâs going to happen, eventually. Your kid will put their tooth under the pillow, and then youâll get distracted and head off to bed and forget all about it. And theyâll wake up in the morning, either confused or distraught that not only is there no remuneration from the tooth fairy, but that the tooth has been shunned and left behind.
When this happened to me it got even more complicated. I immediately feigned confusion to my daughter Ida at the tooth fairyâs fickleness, and convinced her that we could just give it another shot in the coming evening. But Ida decided that â perhaps to spite the fairy â she wanted both the money and to keep the tooth.
So I wrote this note on Idaâs behalf, had Ida approve it, and left it under the pillow with the tooth.

And it worked! The tooth remained, the money appeared.
Ida was only moderately suspicious. The first tendrils of doubt emerged.
