Masterful plans, carried out by the kids
What the films of the eighties seemed to be telling me, as I understood it back then, was that there was no end to the resourcefulness of children. They were full of kids inventing gadgets to foil adult villains, like in The Goonies; or going on wild bike adventures, as in ET. Those are just two of the well-known ones, but kids winning out against all odds โย on bikes, critically โย was a recurring motif in eighties films.
This weekโs piece is about my own childhood in the eighties. It features flax (because itโs set in New Zealand and that stuff is just everywhere), incredibly steep hills, some primary school wolves, and, most importantly, a little read BMX.
